To-date in 2022, The Seafarers’ Charity awarded £914,220 in grants to 16 organisations, supporting more than 400,000 people in need.
Last year we awarded 74 grants, totalling over £2.9m to 56 organisations supporting seafarers in need and their families.
Our grant funding supports frontline organisations and projects that provide essential help for seafarers and their families in crisis. Each grant application is assessed against our core goals to ensure the support provided to ensure that your donations go to where the need is greatest.

Queen Victoria Seamen's Rest
Grant funding towards an external review into the organisational governance with the aim to strengthen the organisation.
Amount awarded: £5,000
Age UK The Silverline
Grant funding for the additional cost of increasing the regularity of telephone friendship groups calls (aimed at helping to reduce loneliness and isolation amongst seafarers) in response to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Safer Waves
To provide an online email support service to merchant seafarers who have experienced sexual harassment, gender discrimination or sexual assault while working at sea.
Amount awarded: £4,000
Seafood Cornwall Training CIC Ltd
Grant funding to provide free hot meals to those identified as in need in the fishing village of Newlyn, Cornwall.
Amount awarded: £3,400
Plymouth Communities Befriending Consortium CIC
Grant funding to provide support for seafarers during the coronavirus pandemic.
Amount awarded: £3,000
South Atlantic Medal Association 1982
Grant funding awarded to contribute to the total costs of a weekend commemorating the 40-year anniversary of the Falkland Islands conflict. 350 merchant seafarers who served in the conflict will be supported by this grant.
