To-date in 2022, The Seafarers’ Charity awarded £914,220 in grants to 16 organisations, supporting more than 400,000 people in need.

Last year we awarded 74 grants, totalling over £2.9m to 56 organisations supporting seafarers in need and their families.

Our grant funding supports frontline organisations and projects that provide essential help for seafarers and their families in crisis. Each grant application is assessed against our core goals to ensure the support provided to ensure that your donations go to where the need is greatest.

Scottish Nautical Welfare Society

Grant funding to support regular quarterly grant payments to 53 older merchant and fishing beneficiaries in Scotland, plus a contribution towards core costs.

Amount awarded: £46,500

Mindfully Wired Communications

Development and delivery of a visual and impactful campaign for UK fishing communities which will provide financial education, promote long-term behavioural change in money management practices and increase awareness of support for financial resilience.

Amount awarded: £40,000

Commsave Credit Union Limited

To provide a marketing budget and loan guarantee fund to underwrite and support the risk of the Credit Union providing affordable financial services to fishing families in the UK.

Amount awarded: £40,000

International Seafarers' Welfare & Assistance Network

Grant funding to cover additional staff costs in the UK, India and the Philippines in response to a tripling in the level of demand for help as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Amount awarded: £38,280

South Devon and Channel Shellfishermen Ltd

Grant support for one year for the salary of the co-operative's Executive Officer who delivers a range of services to support and connect shell fishermen in the South Devon and Channel area.

Amount awarded: £25,000

Sailors' Children's Society

Grant funding for individual hardship grants for children of Merchant Navy seafarers to cover the additional costs of food and heating for a 6-week period during the COVID-19 crisis.

Amount awarded: £20,000
