To-date in 2022, The Seafarers’ Charity awarded £914,220 in grants to 16 organisations, supporting more than 400,000 people in need.

Last year we awarded 74 grants, totalling over £2.9m to 56 organisations supporting seafarers in need and their families.

Our grant funding supports frontline organisations and projects that provide essential help for seafarers and their families in crisis. Each grant application is assessed against our core goals to ensure the support provided to ensure that your donations go to where the need is greatest.

Aberdeen Seafarer's Centre

Grant funding for a Chaplain's salary for one year to support the offshore oil industry and seafarer job losses that have been impacted by the decline in the price of oil and COVID-19.

Amount awarded: £30,000

Port of Bristol Seafarers’ Centre

Grant funding awarded to provide support and services to seafarers visiting the ports of Portbury and Avonmouth.

Amount awarded: £25,000

Mission to Seafarers Africa

Grant funding support for a range of resources and services for ship-visitors to support seafarers in African ports of Mombasa, Kenya and Richards Bay and Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Amount awarded: £24,880

Stella Maris

Grant funding to support Stella Maris South Africa develop its capacity and welfare services to seafarers and fishers in the ports of Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Richards Bay.

Amount awarded: £24,500

Mission to Seafarers

Grant funding contribution to a Digital Chaplaincy Service, now known as Chat to a Chaplain, launched in conjunction with International Christian Maritime Association, to provide online support for seafarers and families wishing to speak to a chaplain.

Amount awarded: £21,000

Cornish Fish Producers Organisation

Grant funding awarded to support the production of The Fathom Podcast - the only specialist commercial fishing podcast in the UK which educates and informs working fishers on relevant and time-sensitive topics that impact their working lives.

Amount awarded: £21,000
