To-date in 2022, The Seafarers’ Charity awarded £914,220 in grants to 16 organisations, supporting more than 400,000 people in need.
Last year we awarded 74 grants, totalling over £2.9m to 56 organisations supporting seafarers in need and their families.
Our grant funding supports frontline organisations and projects that provide essential help for seafarers and their families in crisis. Each grant application is assessed against our core goals to ensure the support provided to ensure that your donations go to where the need is greatest.

Royal Liverpool Seamen's Orphan Institution
Funding to deliver a more meaningful and sustainable level of financial grant support to the sons and daughters of deceased merchant seafarers and fishers.

International Seafarers' Welfare & Assistance Network
Funding for the Seafarers Emergency Fund (SEF) which provides immediate, essential aid to seafarers and families of seafarers, who are directly involved in sudden or unforeseen crises, including COVID-19 cases and welfare issues

Sailors' Children's Society
A funding contribution towards supporting children and young people from Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleet families on low incomes. The grant will help with essentials, such as school uniforms, winter coats and shoes, school trips, educational equipment and more.

Merchant Navy Welfare Board
International Port Welfare Partnership: the next stage of a MNWB & ISWAN collaborative partnership project which aims to encourage & facilitate the creation of welfare boards that bring the maritime community together to work in partnership.

Sailors' Children's Society
Application for funding towards the Society Support Scheme providing grants, respite breaks and support to disadvantaged children of Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleet families throughout the United Kingdom.

UK Sailing Academy
Funding for two dedicated welfare roles to support the wellbeing of UKSA students which continues as they qualify and work as seafarers; and to roll out a ‘Mental Health and wellbeing for Seafarers’ training module internally and externally.
