To-date in 2022, The Seafarers’ Charity awarded £914,220 in grants to 16 organisations, supporting more than 400,000 people in need.

Last year we awarded 74 grants, totalling over £2.9m to 56 organisations supporting seafarers in need and their families.

Our grant funding supports frontline organisations and projects that provide essential help for seafarers and their families in crisis. Each grant application is assessed against our core goals to ensure the support provided to ensure that your donations go to where the need is greatest.

UK Sailing Academy

Funding for two dedicated welfare roles to support the wellbeing of UKSA students which continues as they qualify and work as seafarers; and to roll out a ‘Mental Health and wellbeing for Seafarers’ training module internally and externally.

Amount awarded: £70,000

Mission to Seafarers

A grant awarded by the Seafarers International Relief Fund to provide food including rice, dhal, oil and fruit and vegetables plus herbal medicine, hand sanitiser and other PPE equipment for seafarers in Thoothukkudi (Tuticorin), India.

Amount awarded: £47,000

Age UK Wirral

Grant funding to address social isolation amongst the most frail older ex-seafarers at Mariners' Park, Wallasey through activities and events.

Amount awarded: £36,200

Age UK

Continued provision of much-needed telephone friendship group 'Seafarers Link', aimed at helping to reduce loneliness and isolation, and enhancing relationships and social interaction with other seafarers and their communities.

Amount awarded: £27,640

Stella Maris

A grant awarded by the Seafarers International Relief Fund to provide 200 food parcels per month for three months to seafarers impacted by COVID-19 in Chennai, Tamal Nadu, India. Each food parcel contains sufficient food for a family of five.

Amount awarded: £22,600

Stella Maris

To provide rapid emergency grants to seafarers and their families in need and distress through the establishment of the Stella Maris Centenary Emergency Fund.

Amount awarded: £20,000
